Origins:
  • Breakaway faction from St. Francis/Sokoki Band of Abenakis of Vermont in Swanton.
Status:
  • Active
Registration:
  • Virtually all of its members – including long-time “Chief” – have become “Abenaki” on the strength of a 17th c. Indigenous woman, including women who are not recognized as Abenaki. 
  • The basis for their claims are French-Canadian immigrants to Vermont between 1830 and 1890.

  • The State of Vermont recognized the “tribe” on April 22nd, 2011.
  • Original names was Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk – Abenaki Nation
