Elnu Abenaki Tribe

Location:	Jamaica, VT (Southern VT)
Origins:	Breakaway faction from St. Francis/Sokoki Band of Abenakis of Vermont in Swanton.
Status:	Active
Registration:	Virtually all of its members – including long-time “Chief” – have become “Abenaki” on the strength of a 17th c. Indigenous woman, including women who are not recognized as Abenaki. The basis for their claims are French-Canadian immigrants to Vermont between 1830 and 1890.
